Malta Red Cross Operations, with a contingency of 55 First Aiders, Water Rescuers and an Emergency Doctor, provided it’s usual impeccable medical services during the 2nd edition of XTERRA.  This is a gruelling international  Cross Triathlon in which participants come from around the world to swim, cycle and run in the harsh countryside terrain of Mellieha.

The Swim

A 1.5km triangular swim in Golden Sands bay with a sea temperature of around 16 Degrees Celsius.  Participants were then required to run up a steep flight of steps to the bike rack area.

The Bike

This was a 30km mountain bike race that passed through the Miżieb woodland area and alongside cliff edge trails in the Majjistral Park with a mix of some technical trails and fast flat pathways around the park.

The Run

The 11km run  took place on the Ġnejna plateau with cliff-edge trails with a 200m drop. The route had some technical descents but was mainly flat.
