Rapid Water Rescue training expedition

01.04.2015

A group of Malta Red Cross Operations volunteers travelled to Sicily in April, to participate in Rapid Water Rescue training. In preparation for the expedition, volunteers donned their wetsuits and carried out several sessions in Malta throughout March.

Thanks to the assistance of Virtu Ferries, our group of 23 volunteers, crossed to Sicily and drove to the base in Castiglione in a fleet of Malta Red Cross vehicles. Training in the Alcantara River included swimming and jumping techniques in rapid water and rescue maneuvers including rope work.

Malta Red Cross strongly believe in the importance of these sessions for volunteers to further build on their skills, as well as providing an excellent opportunity for team-building activities.
